Hello wonderful families!

I’m Johanna, and I’m thrilled to share a bit about who I am and the passion that fuels my work as your English-speaking doula here in Germany.

About Me: At 40 years young, I find immense joy in supporting families during the incredible journey of pregnancy, birth, and beyond. Raised in a multicultural home with a Polish mother and a German father, I’ve always felt a deep curiosity about different cultures and traditions. Now that I am happily married to a man of American-German descent, I hold a special place in my heart for multicultural families. This diversity shapes my commitment to supporting pregnant women of all cultural and religious backgrounds throughout the perinatal period.

My Mission: My mission is rooted in simplicity yet holds profound significance – to foster the most gentle, nurtured, and informed entry into parenthood for you and your family. I believe in evidence-based practices, emotional support, and providing you with the resources and knowledge needed to make informed decisions. Your autonomy and consent are at the forefront of my approach, ensuring you look back on your birthing experience with happiness and pride.

My Doula Path: With a background in biology and a doctorate in biomedicine, my journey into doula work began after the transformative birth of my second child. Realizing the need for courage, flexibility, and choices, I sought the guidance of an incredible homebirth midwife. This experience, birthing my second child in the comfort of our bathtub, ignited a passion within me to support others on their childbirth journeys. Hence, I embarked on the GfG Doula training and have never looked back.

My Doula Philosophy: I hold no personal agenda on how you should give birth or parent. All births, in my view, are natural, and my goal is to provide you with the choices and support necessary for you to feel safe, empowered, and at peace with your birthing experience. As a dedicated birth enthusiast, I am committed to collecting evidence-based research and best practices, ensuring you have the information needed to make decisions that align with your family’s needs.

Building Community: I strongly believe in the power of community, especially during the perinatal period. I encourage the families I work with to reach out and build their tribe, fostering connections that provide support and understanding.

I am honored to be part of your journey into parenthood, and I look forward to creating a space of love, empowerment, and informed choices for you and your growing family.

Warmly, Johanna Canady 🌈💖
